any version other than 8.04 wont run on my hp 1030 nr without either sound or wifi problems....9.10 actually locked up big time when trying to get wifi working...hp has a really sucky locked version of ubuntu 9.04 but it works but you cant do much changing with it...also they got rid of pidgin and switched to empitahy (sp?) couldnt figure out how do you change the privacy settings (block users) like u can do in any version of aim or pidgin
for now im gonna stick with ubuntu 8.04 unless someone ships me a free version of windows 7...ubuntu is free and in this economy free is good

I still haven't decided if I should update or not. I got most things running smoothly on my boxes and even though 9.10 most likely will solve a few probs for me I'm just not in the mood for a complete reinstallation yet (I haven't had good experience with any attempts of upgrading.. and I gotta admit that I really enjoy a clean installation )).

But I guess that I'll be going for 9.10 anyways in a few weeks or so since I'm quite curious aswell D

Even though I have been a full time user of Ubuntu (that statement kinda sounded like I referred to some drug...which I guess is true in some ways) since 6.06, I have yet to make an upgrade. I always do a fresh install, just to be on the safe side.

So far, Karmic Koala has treated all my machines very well and I have yet to find any annoyances (there are always some small annoying things with Ubuntu). I'm sure they will come but by the looks of things, it seems like 9.10 is the best release so far.

I have a SSD in my laptop, and the boot time is not increased as claimed, but it's fast enough so it's really not a complaint, it's merely an observation.

The only thing is that some packages/applications still have to catch up and release a version suitable for Karmic. Songbird and bareFTP being the 2 major ones for my use. But with time, this wont be an issue either. It's however not Ubuntu's fault.
