So Its Here At Last - Fantastic!

Except it isn't...

I do have to thank you for all your hard work and Vibe Streamer has been great for a number of years now - especially as its free and given pleasure to so many...

But... I do not wish to seem ungrateful - but after the promise of new features and functions, the only advantage to the end user as far as I can see and hear is that the player shows album art now.

The search engine is APPALLING! Its so bad I aim to remove it and replace it with the one I built for the old vibe streamer. Its a waste of space.

I suggested in a post years ago that a chart list of the most popular tracks played would be nice - I was told to wait for the new version... not there... I'll have to add the chart feature I built for the old version

Lost count of how many requests for uploading and downloading that were made... not there... will have to add the uploader and downloader I built for the old version

I could go on... but I'm begining to wonder if its worth changing to the new version at all to be honest.

Again - sorry if this seems ungrateful - but maybe you made a rod to beat your own back with - hinting at so many things to come in so many replies and then not delivering will only come back right at you in the end and bite you on the bum!

I like all those features you've mentioned Builderbloke.

I have some understanding of what it's like to work on a project and be the sole person doing the work. Since Siit didn't have time to implement those things and you have done them for the previous version, I suspect he wouldn't mind if you converted your version 2.06 mods to version 3 and offered them to him and us in the skinning and mods forums. I know I'd like them. I'm sure Siit would appreciate the help too.

Thanks for your reply Yukiko and yes I understand what its like to work long and hard on a project too - which is why I thought long and hard before posting the topic as the last thing I wanted to do was deliver a crushing blow.

Let's get it right out there - Vibe Streamer is in itself fantastic and is a fantastic achievement - which is probably why I am always banging on to everybody about it.

When making my mods it was apparent that the elegance of the original code is exceptional - far more efficient and streamlined than I could ever think up on my own - my 'add ons' are very clumsy by comparison and built from snippets of code here and there that I adapted. It really needs the intelectual cpacity and intelligence of some one like Slit to pull it all together.

I think if there is a problem at all its that many posts have suggested these features for years. If there are legal or other reasons why some of them cannot be implemented there is not a lot anybody can do about that - but it just seems to me that if Vibe Streamer is to move on to the long and fantastic future it rightly deserves,some of these features should have appeared in the new release.

As it happens - out of sheer gratitude for what we have already, I did offer to help with skinning the player of the jukebox for those who are visually impaired like myself and have to use the 'Accessabilty' mode and other specialised software. But I was politely patted on the head and told that other guys would probably start skinning soon.

However I am pleased to be able to report that whether by design or accident Vibe Streamer adapts very well in accessibility mode - with the exception of a few minor tweaks - and is much to be commended.

As for the rest I am only too happy to share my very crude mods - but I know already the inventor & other contributors can do far better.

you,re right builderbloke the searchfunction is awfull on the top of the page ,but any website has an search option on top ...but this is a streamengine thats why your right ,the only advantage i see is that there is a searchfunction init ..thats the main reason that i switch to 2.06 to 3.0 but there is lot to be done in the extjs version to customize for me ,i was happy with 2.06 but theres bin new devoliping with new browsers that not support the old version , so for me theres no other way then embrace the 3.0 ....but its back to the drawing board for me,and to learn extjs

Hi B-22, yeah old browsers can be a problem - but then again so can new ones like google chrome for a lot of users - I guess we are in that transitional stage yet again. As for streaming search engines - my solution was to bolt on a extra window and use a 'client side' custom search engine. While it may take a minute or so to download to the user - it only has to be done once per session and the inconvenience is more than outweighed by the ability to do 'loose' searches rather than the 'rigid' searches the current search engine requires.

But like you I'm currently modifying v3 to suit my needs as nobody seems to be listening in Vibe Streamer Towers.
