Oddness when adding files...

This struck me as an odd "feature" of the web-UI, given that everything else has been so well thought out...

That when you click the green icon to play a whole directory, if the dir only has subdirectories (which themselves has songs in) then there is a pop-up warning that "no audio files could be found in the folder". But how many people do have an Artist folder with songs right there? Surely most audiophiles will have their dirs sorted much like?

+Artist
----Album 1
----Album 2

So the feature request is for recursive file discovery within folders and subfolders so that the user can just choose the Artists and preload *all* their albums in one shot.

You're not the first one to ask about this. And I see the good things about this, but there are bad sides aswell. I think there are people both for and against it. Myself I'm more on the "against" side I think and that's why it hasn't been implemented yet. As an argument against it I think about what would happen if users start adding the root folder on a server with looooads of files. That will really have the server crawling on it's knees for a while / That's the bad part about it.

Hmm, well, really I dunno if it's that logical to add all files and folders recursively.. lets hear what other people think about it?

Perhaps a checkbox to enable or disable the ability to do so? As for my situation I'm running this on a dedicated dual proc dell poweredge server with only 3 users (it's out of warrenty so I don't really have any other use for it). I don't think there is any potential of slowing this thing down for me.

Additionally, in many OSes when you select a large number of files in a file browser, and press "enter", a warning will appear saying that if you open x number of files the system may be slow. Perhaps offering a control in the GUI to set a max # before warning (as some ppl have very fast servers/connections) and then implementing that warning in the skin would be a good idea.

Yea giving a warning might be a good idea, I'll try to implement it in the next standard skin. As for checkboxes I'm not to fond of adding more controls that could confuse the user, trying to keep it as simple as possible, but still supporting lots of functionality.

Actually I meant a checkbox on the server console, not on the web page. That way if an admin is concered about load they could disable it. It could be added with the of the checkboxes under 'advanced settings' in user or group permissions.

Thanks for adding it!

Well, I could understand why the server wouldn't want to be strained by people loading entire drives of songs at once. I'm not at home to check, but isn't there a setting to limit how many files can be in the current playlist at one time? So, if the user tries to load 350 files at once it will stop loading at the 100th song.

That's a setting for how much a playlist can contain, not the tracklist.
But anyways, I see the need for this and I'll come up with a working idea and a decision when I begin working on the skin.
