hello,
i would like to know the way to make vibestreamer play ogg files or wma ?
i quite love vibestreamer, mainly because , compared to mp3act for example, it does not need a player to play the stream. Always having my browser opened, i'd like to use vibestreamer for my audio files but i have ogg files and flac and wma files.
i first thought adding them would be sufficient ( adding ogg extension with audio/ogg for MIMES ) but seems not.
any suggestion ?
thanks

Hey there!

Since Macromedia Flash can only play the MP3 format the solution for this is to implement real-time encoding on the server. I decided to add a sticky thread about this subject in this forum, so check it out )

I'm currently reading up a bit on what can be the best solution, when I find it it's definately a function I want included in Vibe Streamer.

Sure but if the realtime encoding comes into Vibe, please leave it as an option(on by defult). Some people may want high quality mp3 over medium or low quality everything (medium is fine, but until people hear it for them self that is a personal opinion).

Hmm encoding will be a different option i assume. So The media will have real time encoing but you can also have realtime bitrate conversion to different bitrates such as 96, 128 or higher.

Although thats what i thought.

Realtime encoding from formats other than MP3 and encoding to different bitrates _will_ be totally optional when it's implemented. Since it's quite the performance hit on the application I'm not sure that everyone that doesn't really need it wants to use it.

Indeed, re-bitrating is very much required!
else, how could multiple streams be send across a relativley narrow ADSL upstream ?...

Well i rip at 192, and streaming a those mp3's is crap slow becuase i have only got a 24 kb uplaod. If i have the option to realtime encode them to 128 or 64 then it woudl be good.

I would love this ability. 2/3 of my collection is non-MP3. (Mostly OGG/Vorbis and FLAC) I would love to be able to use Vibe Streamer with my music.

couldn't find the subject on forum. i have a few ideas on real-time encoding. got 2 years internet radio experience. sent you a PM.

as a small notice, transcodersupport is prepared for in the new engine.. what's left is to actually do the actual transcoding.. so far it's been tested by converting wav to mp3 using LAME. although I've got other things in the core to focus at first so people will have to wait for that functionality to be released until at least the new version is stable..

if people are in a hurry, read up on mp3,flac,ogg encoding/decoding and c++ and send me a PM and I'll tell you how you can help out.. p

Hi,

This still isn't forgotten, but was left out of the first verison of 3.0.0 due to some problems that just stalled the release too much. Time is pretty much the issue for me at the moment. All I can say at the moment is that it's on the prio list of features I will work with next

This was one of the features that I was looking forward too in the new release. Will it be in the 0.1 update?

BTW
Thanks for making such a great piece of software my wife and I love it. it makes the hours go by so much easier at work.
