Open source

VibeStreamer is a very nice tool, as most of the people mentioned here, it is one of the best and easiest to implement and use that is out there. VibeStreamer founders and developers have done and are doing a great job. I feel that, may be, this revolution should not get slowed down. If at all there is any consideration, making this an open source will do a lot of good to this tool. Any considerations? thoughts?

There have been thoughs around this and it's not impossible that it will happen in the future.. the main issue around vibe streamer now is that I'm currenly a bit to occupied to develop it as much as I'd like to, so who knows.. can't make any promises but it might be a good solution to keep vibe streamer alive )

Agree.

VS has HUGE potential, specially with new wireless toys like these[/url1w8ukcwc] being taken into consideration.

Personally I would **love** to see VS extended with a dBxml backend so I could run queries against it.

This would be the key reason for VibeStreamer to go open source. There is always someone out there willing and able to update and enhance this wonderful project. Even if you decide to quit working on it, anyone with the source still can modify it for themselves and the product can live on. For example, there are many different requests in this forum for new features, and we are all waiting patiently for a new version. If it were open source, these features might already be in the product. But after all this, the choice is really up to the developer.

Just my 2 cents.

Format support comes to mind when thinking of the benefits of open source. It'd no doubt be a short time after opening the source before developers started popping up with plugins to add conversion support for various formats like flac to be streamed.

Lot's of minor improvements would likely be taken care of pretty quickly, like storing Last.FM login details, so you don't need to login again every time you open the client page.

RutgerB That sounds good! I haven't forgotten about Vibe Streamer and I think the GPL issues have been resolved. I'll do my best to have an open source version out there for you.

Folks!

This discussion has been going on [b34nrvl0k]since 2007[/b34nrvl0k]! shock Myself have already emailed more than once requesting the source code. Am an active user, love the ease of setup, but can think of tons of improvements I'd be willing to make on my own terms... [b34nrvl0k]don't need to wait for a community or newest version[/b34nrvl0k]. ?

arrow [quote34nrvl0k]PLEASE MAKE THE SOURCE CODE AVAILABLE![/quote34nrvl0k]
If you want us to strip down any references to company information just make it known on the terms and conditions for the download.

arrow [quote34nrvl0k]PLEASE DON'T LET THIS PROJECT FALL INTO THE VOID! [/quote34nrvl0k]
Allow it to be updated by people who still use it. [i34nrvl0k]Let the source code be downloaded[/i34nrvl0k]!

shock I can't stress it enough, this application is really great, but it [b34nrvl0k]WILL become useless[/b34nrvl0k] if we do not update it, to be used in Windows Server 2008 R2, Win 7, Win 8, or even Win Server 2012. idea

[i34nrvl0k]The .NET framework is already at 4.5 and there are many features that can be added to the VibeStream platform.[/i34nrvl0k]
