These two buttons apply to the list of songs in the playlst window (That's the area under the player but above the list of files).
If you have one song selected and choose repeat, that one song will play over and over again. If you have multiple songs in your playlist, the entire playlist will be played and then repeated.
Shuffle also applies to the entire playlist. All songs selected will be played in random order.
When repeat and shuffle are both selected the playlist will shuffle play through all the choices and when all are done, the playlist will be repeated again in random order.
