Playback in Doubletime

I got my server up and running with no problems and set up port forwarding on my router and am able to access the music on my home computer from home with no problems. It was very easy and quick to set up.

My only problem is that I have some songs that I re-encoded at a lower bitrate (I don't remember how low, I think 96kbps or a little lower) and these songs are playing back in double speed. It is like the chipmunks have re-recorded all of my favorite songs. This problem only happens on the songs that I have encoded at this lower level, the songs I encoded at 128 kbps work fine. Any ideas on how to fix this?

strange... what mp3 encoder did you use? I use lame l3enc...

This is a well known Macromedia Flash bug. Flash is very picky when it comes to the MP3's and can have problems with MP3's in lower bitrates and MP3's that it doesn't think is encoded 100% perfect.

This is not an issue I can do anything about. I'd recommend you to use the Lame encoder and spam Macromedia that they fix this issue p

I did use Lame to encode the files so it must be be the bitrate that they don't like. I was going to re-encode those files anyway, I guess this will just cause me to get around to actually doing it.

I was having the same problem and doing some checking realized that left the ripping software in mono for a previous session. switching Lame to stereo solved the problem

you have to have the frequency at 44.1 khz if its anything else like 44khz which most podcasts are, then it plays faster.

I had the same problem with certain songs on my client of vibestreamer some played too slow, some played too fast. I verified that the playback issue was happening with the same said songs for a friend who was accessing the server remotely. I checked the songs on the PC locally in WMP and they played normal speed.

Downloaded and installed the Flash Player 10 beta, and voila!

Fixed the speed issue and enabled me to relax enough to notice the Search function on the Directories pane, haha! Beta hasn't crashed Firefox or rendered Youtube or other flash content unusable as of yet either, so that's a plus.

that's great news.. does it mean that the flash 10 beta can actually play tracks with a lower samplerate than 44khz?

Not sure about the samplerate, but it's a lot more forgiving for me as far as bitrate goes. Most of the music I have indexed is ripped from internet radio in mass quantity though, so I presume all kinds of errors are produced by either the program or the recklessness of the amount of data.

I got to reading about all of the features of the new Flash 10, like 3d and GPU load sharing and some other fancied up lingo for effects; it's pretty damn cool. Tested it with some flash games that used to choke my computer up pretty bad, and it's realtime now ). I'd recommend that people grab it even if they aren't having problems. Seems like a pretty solid beta as far as not being buggy

From my observations, the flash player is set to run all audio at 44khz, meaning songs must have their sample rate at 44khz. Having a higher sample rate such as 48khz will cause the file to be sampled down, making it sound slightly slower and lower in pitch. Songs that have a lower sampling frequency (22khz) will be sampled up and will sound doubly fast and high in pitch, which is likely what you experienced.

This is a minor issue to me and I suppose is a limitation of the flash player - not being able to adjust playback sample rate to match the audio file.

My biggest issue, which is leading me to look at solutions apart from VS, is that I all too often run into tracks that appear to load just fine; the display says "buffering - loading mp3 information" and the load bar shows that it is loading, but the track never plays, and then in the playlist it will finally display "Error loading track. File could not be found." This can be extremely annoying at times.
